Three simple ways to improve the understanding of writing

Three simple ways to improve the understanding of writing Copyright 2005 Adam Waxler The main aim is the understanding of reading, or understanding. Unless you understand what you read, you might as well be reading a different language. Unfortunately, for many students the school is playing can seem like a different language. That's okay - by using various teaching strategies teachers can increase reading comprehension of students. Today, more and more teachers that reading is not the sole responsibility of the teacher of language. However, many teachers are trying to find ways to increase understanding of reading effectively in the classroom. The key to reading comprehension is more and more students to use knowledge about a topic before reading about this topic. There are many ways teachers can build on knowledge of students, such as Venn diagrams, KWL charts, strategies and forecasts. 1. Venn Diagrams - Venn diagrams, and are usually used after the reading as a means to compare and contrast something the students only to read, Venn diagrams can also be an excellent tool to be used before reading a means to increase understanding Reading. For example, students can create a Venn diagram the similarities and differences between North and South in the first U. S. civil war. Before reading, students can create their Venn diagram on the basis of what we already know the subject. From there, students can combine and share their Venn diagrams to build their knowledge base. Once the Venn diagram is completed, students can then read. After the students complete the reading, you should go back and check their Venn diagram, make corrections and add new information. By encouraging students to reflect on the first reading assignment, students increase their reading comprehension. 2nd Strategic Forecasting - another way to exploit the students increase their knowledge and understanding of reading is to have students make predictions about the topic before reading. There are many types of prediction strategies teachers can use to increase reading comprehension. Here is an example of a simple prediction strategy:? 3.7 Creating the foundations for reading has been selected for use with your class. ? Changing some of these false statements to declarations. ? Ask students to predict whether the statement is true or false prior to reading. ? After reading the students retu and see if their predictions are correct. What is the strategy for reading comprehension? Not only has this strategy of reading comprehension to help students use what they already know a subject, but also offer students a purpose for reading. Students know what to concentrate when you read and who read to determine if their predictions are correct. 3rd KWL Chart - A KWL chart is a strategy used in teaching to enhance reading comprehension. The KWL chart is Want to lea more. A KWL chart is divided into three columns, and provides a place to record what students know, what the students want to lea, and what the student once they have leaed to read. By giving students a few minutes to write what they know and what they want to know before reading, the KWL chart provides the students a tangible structure for enhancing their involvement in their reading. KWL table invites students to access knowledge on their own for reading, and reflect and summarize text. The three reading strategies (Venn diagram, prediction strategies, and KWL charts) have the common feature of exploiting and building on knowledge as a way to increase reading comprehension.
