A short biography of some of Europe s most loved and hated Monarchs Pt 1 Vlad Tepes Dracula Vlad Tepes or Dracula was bo in 1431 in the fortress of Sighisoara, Romania. His father was the military goveor of Transylvania and a member of 'Order of the Dragon. The contract was awarded in 1387 by Holy Roman Emperor and his second wife, Barbara Cilli. During the winter of 1436-1437, Vlad (Dracul) became prince of Wallachia, and his residence in the palace of Tirgoviste, the princely capital. In 1442, he and his younger brother Radu were taken hostage by the turkish sultan Murad II Dracul, was held in Turkey until 1448, while his brother Radu decided to stay until 1462. In 17 years, Vlad, supported by troops of Lent to him by Pasha Mustafa Hassan, trying to use the Wallachian throne but was defeated by Vladislav II (who had earlier killed his father and his elder brother) or two months after conflict armed. Vlad had to wait until 1456, when he was able to retaliate against the murderers of his father. Vlad the first act of revenge was aimed at the boyars of Tirgoviste to kill his father and his brother Mircea. Around Easter 1459, Vlad Boyar of all families and arrested the older members of Impaled on poles forcing, while the other in March from the capital of Poenari. He ordered them to make a fortress on the ruins of an old outpost on the river Arges. Many nobles died in the construction of the castle, the remains of which are still visible today. Vlad was known for his brutal suppression techniques, often ordering people to be skinned, decapitated, blinded, roasted, hacked, buried alive, stabbed and blinded to name a few. He also wants to make its victims nose, ears and genital organs. But his favorite form of torture was impalement on stakes, hence the nickname "Tepes" which means "The Impaler" in Romanian language. It 'was this form of punishment, against whom he Transylvanian merchants who ignored the laws of his trade. There are many stories on the psyche of Vlad Tepes. He was known throughout the country for its strong adherence to honesty and order. Almost all crimes, of lying and stealing to killing, may be punished by impalement. Such as confidence in the effectiveness of his law, Dracula, a golden cup on display in the central square of Tirgoviste. The cup could be used by thirsty travelers, but had to stay on the field. It was never stolen and remained entirely untouched throughout Vlad the rule. He watched the poor, vagrants and beggars as thieves. Therefore, he invited all the poor and sick of Wallachia to his court in Tirgoviste for a great feast. After his guests had eaten and drunk their fill, Dracula ordered the hall on board and set on fire. There were no survivors. In early 1462, Vlad launched a campaign against the Turks on the Danube, which was very successful, managing several victories. In exchange for these losses, the Sultan decided to undertake an invasion of Wallachia with an army three times larger than Dracula's. Vlad was forced to retreat towards Tirgoviste, buing villages and poisoning wells along the road. These were to hinder the turkish army in their search for food and water. When the Sultan? S armies finally the capital city, exhausted and hungry, were confronted with a horrific sight: thousands of stakes held the bodies of some 20,000 prisoners turkish, who came to the so-called "Forest of the Impaled." The scene was the first they had an immediate effect, the Sultan retued hungry and exhausted. Sultan Mehmed left the next phase of the struggle for the younger brother Vlad Radu pursued his brother and his wife Poenari castle on the Arges river. Dracula's wife, to escape capture turkish, committed suicide by running against the upper wall of the body of the river rocks. Vlad to flee the siege and the hunger for his way with the help of local farmers. Upon his arrival the Hungarian king Matthias arrested Dracula and imprisoned him in the Hungarian capital of Visegrad. In 1475, Prince Vlad Tepes of Wallachia again, where he was a very short time third govement. He was assassinated in late 1476.
