The story of Oceanside CA The first chapter in the history of Oceanside began in late 18th century, when Father Juan Crespi, a Spanish Franciscan friar, passes through the area in 1769, while traveling with the Portola expedition. His reports about the area led to the establishment of Mission San Luis Rey de Francia (named after St. Louis King of France) in a 3-4 miles inland from what is today the center Oceanside by Father Fermin Francisco de Lasuen. Built from the original of Luiseno Indians, the "King of the Missions", as he found some rough times in the early 1830 during the secularisation of the Mexican govement, but recovered as a people of San Luis Rey, slowly grew around it. In 1883 the completion of rail link from San Diego and San Beardino, providing greater access to the Pacific coast. Andrew Jackson Meyers, a businessman from the nearby mission, requested and received a grant of 160 acres south of the area, which later became Camp Pendleton, at the time known as Rancho Santa Margarita. J Meyers served as Chauncey Hayes real estate side, the sale of lots in the city and, ultimately, the application for a post office for the growing community. Oceanside The name comes from a popular diversion of the time inside of the families, who often go "hand of the sea" to escape the heat and enjoy the beautiful coast of the Pacific. Incorporated in 1888, Oceanside has grown rapidly in subsequent years, as the railway companies and to the lonely beach of the city. In 1893 the first of the Oceanside Municipal docks was constructed, and in this century, Oceanside has become the popular tourist destination it is today, with the addition of the Oceanside Harbor and the Golf Course Road. In 1942 an intense period of growth came with the purchase of Rancho Santa Margarita of land north of Oceanside by the U.S. Marine Corps for the establishment of Camp Pendleton. Today, Oceanside CA is a thriving community of long-term residents, the local armed forces, beach lovers and tourists who come to our beautiful coast and golf courses throughout the year.
