January marks

January marks January is a month: January 1st January or the first, is obviously the first day of the calendar year. This is true in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars. I refer to a standard calendar year, which are ordered months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December. What used to be in history as the first day of a new year was medieval Julian, a day other than January 1. January 1 was adopted as the first day of the Julian years by all the countries of Weste Europe, except England between 1440 and 1610. After the first 364 days of the month of January for the year (365 in leap years). Important developments which have occurent on this day throughout history have been as follows: 45 BC - The Julian calendar first takes effect. 404 - last known gladiator competition in Rome takes place. 630 - Muhammad says to Mecca with the army that captures bloodlessly. 1651 - Charles II crowned King of Scotland 1673 - The delivery of mail between New York and Boston. 1788 - First edition of The Times of London published in 1797 - Albany, New York City replaces the capital of New York. 1801 - The first asteroid 1 Ceres is discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi. 1808 - The importation of slaves in the United States is prohibited 1894 - The channel of Manchester, England, was officially opened to traffic. 1898 - New York City annexes land from surrounding counties, creating the City of Greater New York. 1908 - The first payment of old age pensions were made in the United Kingdom, with over 70 people who have received five shillings (25p) a week. 1912 - The Republic of China was established. 1934 - Alcatraz Island becomes a federal prison in the United States. 1970 - The Unix epoch begins at 00:00:00 UTC. 1971 - is banned cigarette ads on television. 1984 - AT & T is divided into twenty-two independent units. 1985 - The Inteet Domain Name System was created. 1985 - The first mobile telephone call is made up of British Eie Wise to Vodafone. 1992 - George HW Bush becomes the first President of the United States of America to address the Australian Parliament. 1994 - The free trade agreement enters into force. 1995 - The World Trade Organization comes into force. 1995 - The Kingdom of Sweden and the republics of Austria and Finland are admitted into the European Union. 1998 - Smoking is banned in all bars and restaurants in the State of Califoia. 1999 - The euro was introduced. 2001 - January 1 marked the first day of the third millennium. The beginning of a new year marks a lot of changes for many of us.
